Commerce Dept. grants $500K for Mass. video game industry

And the Commerce Department sees fit to dole out the bucks to this industry why?  No need to see private backing for projects like this simply because we are looking to cut budgets and cap spending money foolishly?
This will all be explained as a 'jobs creator' no doubt.  Why not promote farming, fishing, and manufacturing by lowering the tax rate and cutting the regulatory red tape for private companies?

The U.S. Department of Commerce will provide $500,000 over five years to the Massachusetts Digital Games Institute, to support efforts to promote the Bay State’s video-game development industry, Mass High Tech reports.
Based out of Becker College in Worcester, Mass., the group launched in April with support from state officials, and a plan to boost the video-game industry in Massachusetts.
