33K dial in to Tierney 'town hall' - SalemNews.com, Salem, MA

WHAT A SHAM THIS WAS. I GOT A CALL BEFORE HAND TO ASK WHAT MY QUESTION WOULD BE BEFORE EVEN A MEETING. THAT SEEMED TO SHOW THAT THE QUESTIONS WERE PICKED BEFORE THE 'TELEPHONE TOWN HALL'.
Joyce from Marblehead argued that, without tort reform, the health care changes would not generate any cost savings. Tierney disputed the claim, saying that making the system more efficient would save large sums of money. He acknowledged that tort reform was "too large and controversial" to include in the health care overhaul.
IS REP. TIERNEY AN ATTORNEY?
Tierney also asked poll questions during the call. Pressing one if they were in favor of the public option and two if they were opposed, 68 percent of participants declared their support for the concept.

  1. We had a very similar telephone townhall in Phoenix, Arizona, last week with Harry Mitchell. Curious. I was not called beforehand about my question but I never got a chance to ask my question either. We had 14,000 dial-in to Phoenix.

  2. Tort reform "too large" to put into a 1000 page bill? I can reform torts in one sentence: Cap non-economic damages at $250,000. The rest is commentary.
