I did not partake this year, besides one can just travel out of state if need be on any weekend to escape the Mass sales tax. In regards to the following story, I need some more trips to the range before I can decide what best suits me. Seems like many already knew what they need and it wasn't a new stove.
Gun purchases on tax-free weekend up in 2012
The total number of firearms sold in Massachusetts on the tax holiday weekend has increased for the past three years.
Data released by the Massachusetts Department of Criminal Justice Information Services shows that 1,391 firearms were purchased between Aug. 11 and 12 in the Bay State. That was up from 1,294 purchased on the tax holiday weekend in 2011.
In 2010, 927 guns were sold on the tax holiday.
Officials said the numbers reflect transactions recorded using the MIRCS Dealer Application as well as the firearms transaction recording form.
