Salem's 77-year-old Olde Salem Greens will cede city control to private management under a measure narrowly approved by the Park and Recreation Committee, the Salem News reports.
The committee voted 3-2 to sign a five-year lease with Golf Facilities Management Inc. of North Reading, which operates several 18-hole courses in the area, the Salem News reports.

Asparagus growers may see some green
Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 6:57am ESTAsparagus growers in western Massachusetts may be getting some financial relief from the federal government to compensate them for revenue lost to foreign growers, the Republican reports.
As the Republican reports, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is making $15 million in compensation available to asparagus growers throughout the country for market losses from 2004 to 2007.
