Jobless Claims Rise 31,000 to 473,000

The number of people who filed for unemployment insurance unexpectedly rose last week, the Labor Department said Thursday, as the jobs market continues to stall in its recovery.

UNEXPECTEDLY...STALL...RECOVERY

Has anyone told the president or his 'advisers' and were we not told yesterday the the stimulus is working and jobs have been saved? Where the heck are the saved jobs, I can't find one!

  2. as Clinton would say, I guess it depends upon the definition of the words "saved" and "working", huh?

  3. And the Kansas City School District announced that it will close 1/2 of the schools due to a budget "shortfall." In truth, the state of Missouri has been carrying KC and St. Louis for decades due to court orders for desegregation. That stopped a few years ago but both cities continued to spend as if they had the entire state to draw funds. No more. The KC district finally realized that had to stop. It's questionable if they even had funds to finish the school year.

The US Dept of Education should be disbanded and let the states fend for themselves. Then, maybe, we'd get some real accounting.
