Honor Roll

I have a few words to say today about honor.  We continue to 'dumb down' America while third world countries are raising standards and their students are out scoring ours in math and science.

Honor Roll: Students recognized for their academic achievement on lists published periodically throughout the school year, known as honor rolls, varying from school to school, and from enlarged different levels of education.

Massachusetts:
BILLERICA (CBS) – A Billerica sixth grader wants all the schools in town to return to the alphabet grading system.
A’s, B’s, C’s and D’s have been replaced by numbers 1-through-4.  Administrators also did away with the honor roll.
Sixth grader Jacob Burke was not happy with the change so he took things into his own hands.
The 11-year-old started a petition at lunch, asking the school to return to the old grading system.  He got 150 kids to sign during one lunch period.
His mom Deb Burke will present the petition at a school committee meeting Monday night

For some reason our society sees a problem with students excelling in school and awarding team trophies - not on merit.
I am pleased to report that at this printing not all schools are dumping the honor roll and congratulations to my young grandson, sixth grader, who has achieved a spot on the honor roll for the second time this year.
