"But more important than his groundbreaking achievements was the way he made us feel - as young and vibrant and optimistic as he was."
He was much more than that. Yes, Mr. President, Dick Clark was a businessman at heart in a time gone by of clean cut, pants around the waist youth. I used to come home from school and turn on Bandstand before supper every school day. Back then, everyone who wanted to work had a job, no jeans were worn to school, and the Pledge of Allegiance was said every morning, after a prayer, before class. Dodge ball was played in the school yard at recess and if you were picked last for the team it meant you were probably not that good at the game.
Am I saying it was better back then..............not necessarily. But Dick Clark never carried what color you were, just that you had talent and your songs were not X-rated and was the perfect roll model for the youth of the day. Who do the youth have to look up to these days?????
