They keep saying they're all about jobs.

They keep saying they're all about jobs.
But our allegedly well-intentioned elected leaders have a strange way of showing it.
The longer unemployment remains stubbornly high, the more they propose ways to make it more difficult for anyone to run a competitive business in Massachusetts.
Entrepreneurs must be feeling like the Legislature is an abusive partner who says he has to keep hurting you for your own good.
Sure, there are the high-profile state handouts to companies like Evergreen Solar, which are involved in politically favored industries. But, as we all now know, $58 million in government candy still wasn't enough for the company I am henceforth calling Nevergreen.
The firm announced last month it was closing its Devens plant. They said even with all that money, they still couldn't compete with China unless they were in China. There went 800 jobs propped up by taxpayers.
But most companies don't get showered with millions of bucks. Their reward for their efforts to make it in Massachusetts is to get showered with regulations and mandates.

  1. Job creation is a process that can only be carried out by the private sector. Congress can decide not to tax as heavily and allow private parties to create wealth.

BUT the only way government can create jobs is by levying taxes (or borrowing money from China) and hiring government workers to lean on their shovels - welfare for the lower class.
