SALEM — A company that manages golf courses in Beverly and Lynn has submitted a proposal to run Olde Salem Greens, the city's nine-hole golf course.
Golf Facilities Management of North Reading was the only firm to file a proposal. It operates the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club, Gannon Municipal Golf Course in Lynn and Hillview Golf Course in North Reading, all 18-hole courses.
Although not disappointed by the response, a city official said he was surprised there wasn't more interest.
Although city officials have not committed to turning over management of the 77-year-old course to a private company, the Park and Recreation Commission voted last month to explore the potentially cost-saving option.
Two board members, Robert Callahan and James Shea, said they oppose privatization and want to retain local control. ( I bet they do)
