UMass breaks ground on $70m Lowell center - Boston Business Journal Good jobs for private industry or higher tuition? In December, UMass Lowell said it was tapped to receive $4 million in federal funding for nanotechnology research and development as part of a $626 million spending bill for the U.S.Department of Defense. The university received a similar grant in 2007, that time for $4.6 million, for related nono-technology work.
