LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Tax cuts will be on the agenda this week as German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union and the pro-business Free Democratic Party continue negotiations to form a new coalition government.

"I'm sticking to this. There must be relief for taxpayers," Hermann Otto Solms, the FDP's top negotiator, said Sunday, according to the Associated Press.
