Don't Tread on Me flagImage by St. Murse via Flickr

In the spirit of Independence Day, yesterday I hang my American flag on the front porch. I believe, as of today, I still have the right to do so. Our freedoms are being given away not just taken as some may believe. Stop and think how many changes we have seen in our country since the 4th of July just last year. Government take over of banks, auto manufacturers, credit card companies, to name a few. Who in this country is doing the hiring? The government. Who in this country is getting raises and pensions? The government. People have taken to the streets at local 'Tea Party' marches and rallies only to be judged as mean spirited. Our politicians do not hear us, they do not even read the bills they are putting into law. I fear more changes to come that are not going to be welcomed with open arms. This government and these policies can not be sustained. I do not know what flag, if any, will be flying on my front porch next 4th of July. More taxes may soon be on the way. Besides an increase in the state sales tax — from 5 percent to 6.25 percent — the budget signed by Gov. Deval Patrick on Monday also allows communities to raise the tax rates on hotel rooms and meals.

  1. My Gadsden flag will be flying in front of my house on July 4 and my other Gadsden flag will be taken to the tea party.

  2. By the way, Missouri once again maintains its reputation of ugly license plates. The new plates show Missouri in a silly fount, and outline of the state, and a silly and tiny little blue bird standing an inch tall or so in the bottom center of the plate. I don't know if it's legal or not, but I covered the blue bird with the Gadsden rattlesnake. I know I will be pulled over like others who are accused of being domestic terrorists for this statement. I just took it to another extreme.
